What type of asphalt do I need?
The type of asphalt depends on traffic volumes and type of traffic (heavy trucks, cars, etc.) as well as environmental conditions. Each project has different factors that need to be evaluated.
What thickness of asphalt do I need in my parking lot?
The thickness of asphalt depends on the type and volume of traffic as well as the region’s soil conditions and the required design life.
What type and thickness of granular base do I need under my asphalt?
The thickness of granular base and subbase under an asphalt surface is dependent on the region’s subgrade soils, traffic type, and environmental conditions. Typically granular base ranges from 150mm to 300mm and subbase ranges from 200mm to 300mm.
How long can I handle asphalt before it gets too cold to place and compact?
Asphalt cools off in a period of roughly 2 to 4 hours depending on whether it is a hot summer day or a cool spring or fall day.
When can I drive or park on new asphalt after placement?
Depending on weather conditions, one can typically park vehicles between 24 to 48 hours after placement.
What strength of concrete do I need?
The required strength of concrete is determined by many factors including structure, design, loading, traffic loads, exposure conditions, environmental factors, and design life.
How long before I can park vehicles on the surface?
Typically, a waiting period of 7 to 14 days is required prior to parking, driving, or loading a concrete surface.
When should I put sealer on a concrete surface?
An exterior concrete surface sealer should be initially applied after 28 days of placement.
Do I have to place sealer every year?
To ensure continued surface protection the sealer should be applied annually.
